Attorney Stereotypes: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Our blog “Five Popular Attorney Stereotypes: Ture or Untrue?” has become so popular that we decided to dig a little deeper! Below you will find five new attorney stereotypes that exist either because of Hollywood, people’s bad experiences, or they’re based off of half-truths.
Many of the stereotypes below seem to bounce between two extreme opinions – that attorneys are terrible at their jobs, or attorneys are the most successful people out there. Which way do you think you fall on the spectrum?
The Rich Lawyer - This attorney seems to always pull up in a sports car and has a house in every major city. This is the stereotype that motivates someone to go to law school, then they realize that most attorneys don’t have bags of money in their desk drawers.
The Unethical Lawyer - This is the attorney that tells you “rules are meant to be broken.” They don’t do anything the way they’re supposed to, and everyone knows it, but they never seem to get in trouble for anything.
The Hippie Lawyer - This is an attorney who takes every sad case that walks in the door. They can be impossible to reach because they get so involved with their cases that there is a chance they are chained to a building, in a suit made from recycled water bottles.
The Uninformed Lawyer - This is an attorney who never does any research. They choose to remain ignorant on the law they practice and fumble through pretty much everything. These are the attorneys who can’t give you exact answers, for anything.
The Good Ol’ Boy - They seem to know every judge and come from a long line of attorneys. Their name alone gets them notoriety and they make even large county courts feel like a small-town farmers market.
